12  slices  of stale bread 
 40 g  butter 
800  ml  milk (3 cups)
8   egg yolks
175 g sugar
25 g currants
1 vanilla pod  or 3/4 drops vanilla essence
cinnamon, to taste


It's an easy recipe. Preheat the oven at 180° C.   Meanwhile, after  spreading some butter on every slice of bread, put them into a sufficiently  large oven-proof dish and scatter the currants all over them.
Heat the milk with the vanilla for a shor time. Once it reaches a mild temperature, mix it with the egg yolks and the sugar, using a whisk to obtain a smooth mixture.  Pour it over the sliced bread, paying  attention to distribute it evenly.
If you are not in a hurry, let it rest  for 30 minutes. If not, sprinkle the surface with sugar and cinnamon to taste. Bake the pudding  for 1 hour at 180° C.  
You can serve it hot. If you want, you can  accompany it with whipped cream or jam.
